Welcome, mi amigos. It’s time, once again, for that new faithful drop of the Mix: The Tape series. Volume 4 comes with the theme of “Harmful to yourself and/or others.” That is, of course, how they measure the true insanity of a person and their negative emotions/psychological well-being. It starts with the opening track, Hot Chip’s “Look After Me.” This track is in the harmful effect of personal disappointment by not being there for someone whom greatly depends on you. From there, it’s a riding wave of moody emotions and “harmful effects” that follow. From there you’re treated to tracks of depression due to missing someone(Gorillaz’s “El Mañana”) to the feeling of being alone in the darkness of your own mind(A Whisper In The Noise’s “In The Dark”). The middle ground of sanity takes place with Modeselektor’s remix of Thom Yorke’s “Skip Divided.” The song soundtracks the breaking of the plane of sanity with delusion and dementia leaking in, taking your ship to sinking depths. What follows are the more aggressive works, showcasing anger(Orgy’s “Dizzy” and Black Light Burns’ “Stop A Bullet”) and reaching a relationship’s breaking point(CruelBlackDove’s “Wasting” and Tool’s “Intolerence”). What closes this volume is Kill Hannah’s “Welcome To Chicago, Motherfucker” which makes the Windy City seem like a metropolis version of Apocalypse Now. Grab your darker half and put your prescription medication back into the cabinets. Allow your depression, frustration, anger and growing disconnection with reality due to personal issues to finally have it’s voice with this release. But, remember, if “they” catch you . . . don’t place blame on me validating your actions.
